 i just bought it is it to much power for the grinder. it was custom built?

I ran a 28 HP diesel on my 252 for over 3,000 hours. Its now in the process of getting a 38 HP diesel. The 28 HP ran a stock 252 clutch. There are quite a few 35 HP Briggs and Strattons running the stock clutch. What melted the clutch is made of steel?

If the clutch is not seated tightly on the shaft, it will vibrate, build up heat, and all plastic parts will melt into a glob.
There are spacers,( in the frm of flat washers), that must be installed in the correct order and in the correct amount, so the clutch can be drawn up tightly on the shaft. I have seen this meltdown occure on several diesel and gas powered zero turn lawnmowers. There is usually a shoulder on the shaft (back toward the engine end of the shaft). The clutch MUST bottom out against this shoulder when you tighten up the bolt that holds it to the shaft.
