I'm trying to remove the clutch from my John Deere C62. I removed the drum but cannot get the clutch off. Is it a press on fit or threaded? I'm staring to believe that it's gonna take some kind of special tool to get this thing off.

Any help will be greatly appriciated...

I would recommend getting some starter cord, not from the starter on your saw, but some similar to it, about 12" should do, remove the spark plug first, then bring the piston up so it closes the exhaust port, then from there, stuff in some of the rope, and rotate the saws crank in the direction it rotates in while running. after this, if there is a nut on the clutch, just put a socket on it, and it will rotate off, but its a reverse thread so it tightens as the saw runs.

i don't have one of those saws but it should come of clock-wise
there was a post on here if you want to search it about taking out the spark plug an put some rope in the cylinder and that will hold the engine from turning over during removal if you don't have the tool to fit a ratchet or impact you can use a brass punch and a hammer and one or to swing should do it set it up so the saw is on a table and you are driving it down
i am sure some one else might have a method to removing it

Lawn Masters has it right, the only question being does your clutch hub have a nut forged into it or do you need a special socket for that saw? I`m not intimately familair with that model so I don`t know.

If you are in need of a special socket, do a search here for clutch hub removal and you should see several examples and methods for making your own.

This is the same method that Lawn Masters described with the very significant ommission of getting the piston above the exhaust port before stuffing rope into the cylinder. It will be a real PITA if you get the rope into the exhaust and shear it off.
