I wonder if it would tend to roll around when not loaded, you know, so the sheave ends up on the biner, instead of the endplate.

I think you are supposed to feed the biner through the holes located at right angles to the shives.

No! Not that way. See the Sherrill catalog or check the site. It shows how to do it.
