I bought what I now think is a Husqvarna 280CD to do a bit of light Alaska milling (incidentially, this is the saw I paid for with the free L65 from this thread!). It ran and I paid CAD$100 for it, but stopped running promptly after I got it hot.

I'm 95% sure that the coil is shot; the resistances seem OK (2.7k/2.4 ohm), but it makes a thin, weak spark through the plug, and it won't make my variable-gap coil tester spark at all.

Question 1:

Does this look like a 280CD to you? It's got a Tillotson HS122A 425 carb, and it looks like the cylinder is stamped 52ZN1+. One of the chain catchers was stamped "280". No badge nor serial tag, unfortunately.

Question 2:

The ignition module is marked SEM 10008300. Would that be original? I'm really struggling to find a replacement that (a) is electronic, and (b) looks like it might fit. Would really appreciate any advice.

[Sorry, the site's image upload isn't working, photos here for now.]

Tank handle looks 380 or 480 to me- but they all pretty much swap over and chop and change.
The 280S and CD has a different style of rear handle- the S is a points ignition and the CD is electronic.
As such, you should be able to swap out ignitions for one off a 380 or 480- but without going through a lot of paperwork- not sure if you have to take flywheel and coil, or just coil swap.
