Do all of your guys wood burners have a combustion blower and are they set up on a thermostat. Mine has a blower that is not hooked up and it was at one time connected to a thermostat.
I am low on wood for this year and wondering if i had the combustion blower running if there are advantages to it. Hoping to get working on it tonight.

With the blower you'll be burning through wood like it's going out of style. I think you can burn cleaner with one and get a hotter fire burning faster, but I don't think its worth it.

A guy at work had a Woodchuck,I think, with that setup. He said he would choke fire way down to a smolder then when thermostat triggered blower it burned fine. He never complained about using too much wood. But I dont have first hand knowledge of one.:)

All of that depends on where that little blower is located. If its above the fire (Mine is) It would burn through a hell of alot of wood. If its below, and the furnace doesn't meet the heating demand in the winter, the blower will for it to, resulting in burning a hell of alot of wood. I hate to say, but being low on wood for a basic wood furnace, there ain't much you can do to stop it from using less. How much wood do you have now?

I have about 6 cord right now, but I also supply my grandmother, and sometimes my father-in law if he gets low, which he is as well.
Thanks for the help guys, I think I will try it out a couple times with the blower and see how it goes.

My Woodmaster is set up with a blower and thermosat. Currently the blower is set to come on when the water temperature is 150 and stays on until the water temp is 170. When the blower shuts off the amount of air coming into the furnace is restricted when the damper closes and the fire goes down to a smolder - the damper controls the air intake. I suppose you could run this furnace without a blower - however it probably would not burn cleanly nearly as soon. When the blower comes on the fire catches quickly and burns very hot until the blower turns off and the damper closes.
