I was driving from my boss' place yesterday to the nursery. On my way I was stopped by a man working for the town who was on traffic detail for a town tree crew. No helmets as far as I can remember. They had a bucket there with forestry package, a small town dump truck, a verizon truck was there as well (maybe they knocked out the phone lines?). Anyways, the guy in the bucket truck was all set to lower out this one top, had it tied off and was going to make his cut from the bucket with the hydraulic pole saw. From what I could tell he only made a back cut and the piece split up and came down on top of the boom of the bucket. Little maneuvering and he was able to get it off the boom, but then he was faced with the chore of keeping this piece off of all the stubs he had left.

Personally I have very little experience with bucket trucks, but I do remember stories of guys getting killed by dropping things across the boom and getting tossed. So while I was watching this happen I was just shaking my head on the inside.
