Had a large red oak taken down at our admin offices today. 57" at the base. Nothing unusual other than a concrete column in the center. Any ideas of why? I wasn't there when it was fell.....but from the looks of it a chain got smoked!!

Some people think it helps the tree heal. It doesn't. I took down a decent oak a few years back that had a 6 inch concrete cylinder in it from the ground up to about 20 ft high. When I finally got it on the ground I saw the hole where it was poured in. It had to be cut into 4 or 5 pieces to be loaded. I started out with old chains. I would cut then roll the log. Cut then roll the log. Until it would finally break off. I went through a few chains bit finally got it.
