everytime someone talks about pay scale cost of living is always mentioned. but other than houseing i say the cost of living is pretty much the same across the country.

yes in there are bars where you can buy a 14.00 martini but you could also go to happy hour and get a 3.50 martini. the price of a car or truck is pretty much the same. a gallon of milk is the same. ins is pretty much the same. fuel is pretty much the same.

unless your living in san fran, manhattan etc......i don't see how one area has such a cheaper cost of living than the other. alot has to do with what your accustomed to. do you like good restaurants , top shelf booze, grass fed beef , organic produce etc.

so where is this place with the cheap cost of living? where a ground man can live like a king on 10.00 an hour?

Hattisburg, MS (in my state) was recently the cheapest place to live.

If houses cost more then people must make more, if people make more then stuff cost more.

As to your boast of 2900 a day average, how many days a year do you work at that rate?

Asplund head foremans make 12.50 an hour. The lowest I pay a worker over 18 is 8 an hour, 10 is more common.

Out of 2900 a day, how much is netted?

about 900 of that is payroll. we run 2 crews the other crew works in a different area and does abot a 1000.00 day or more on with a slightly higher payroll.

$12.50 / hr here would be a basic groundie. Climbers, if paid properly are $20 / hr and up.

2.50 for super is the price in ny. dieisel is round 2.56 in ny. i live upstate new york but pass through new jersey on my commute to new york city i pay around 2.25 for diesel in nj.

I lived and ran a business in NYC and know the cost of EVERYTHING there is higher than VA. where I am now. Biggest cost difference for me was housing, prices here are about 1/3 the same house as NY. and car and homeowners insurance is about 1/4 that of NY. Overall property tax rates are cheaper and other big difference is sales tax only 4% here opposed to your 8 1/4 so that saves a few pennies on the cost also.

Not sure about living like a king on 10.00 an hour, but you can probably live closer to the castle here than in N.Y. ;)

This is what frustrates me about the industry around here (colorado), certified arborists/climbers are getting paid 15 to 18 dollars an hour (climbers with 5 + years experience). On top of that it costs, on average, three hundred thousand to buy a house. Doesnt seem to make sense, feels like I work and work and barely make ends meet on these wages. Not to mention that its dangerous work, and lets face it, takes a little more skill than shovelling rock.

Regular unleaded is roughly $2.40 / gal here. Diesel I think is over $2.50 / gal. I have to run out in a little bit, so I will look at what the cheapest place in town is selling for.

Ok so does your crew maintain an average of 2900 dollars a day gross? You seemingly are making a smoke screen of words.

what am i smoke screening about? on a daily basis we do about 2900.00 worth of work. 2900.00 is what the reciepts all ad up to. therefor the company grossed 2900.00 from that crew before any payroll or exspense's are taken out.

Because you have yet to straight answer my question. I take it your individual crew brings in 2900 a day, add that with the other crew and your crew and thats the companys gross for the day.

I get the concept of the crew works for the company which= the crews gross goes to the companys gross plus other crews and workers. Not hard.

As to cost of living, how much does it cost to dispose of wood (broad question) up there? Down here its free after it gets back to the house, there its 40 a ton? Thats a cost of making your living.

It's not so much the dumping fee to get rid of the material as it is having nowhere to put the materials.
