I don't go to town much at all, had to get some protein buckets for cattle so I pass the saw shop on the way back north on 99.

I have a spread sheet with all the numbers and I was debating on getting the second MS362 ported/polished or a 500 or 462, lots cheaper to port.
Went over the 500i and then the 462 the $$$ weren't an issue but in the end I went with the 462 full wrap, 28" Stihl lightweight bar. At 69 the extra "1.5lbs" of power head weight just seemed more than I wanted.

I WAS ONLY STOPPING TO LOOK!

Our area is in HIGH/EXTREME Public use and IPL III so I've only been able to get about 2.5 tank fulls through the 462. So far there is a smile on my face, really impressed.

Might be a MS362/25" LW with very low hours available in the future.

I think you will really like the 462. A little over eight years ago I was on a trip out west and was about sixty miles from Madison saw shop in Centralia Wa so I made a detour to shop in and look around. I ended up leaving with a 461. Eight plus years later still loving the saw.

I really want a full wrap handle for my ms460, that series of saw really wakes up after a port job. Porting turned a hour and a half of cutting large rounds into chunks I can load by hand to fill the truck bed into about a 45 minute job. Anti fatigue measures are getting more important the older I get. That light weight bar helps out a ton in balance and your arms/back/hands last longer. Even though I still dislike the flip up caps they also greatly help reduce the stress on the hands/fingers after running the saw.

Went out earlier today and put two tanks through the saw.. Still very much liking it although I use/used the 362 and 261 a fair bit leading up to this purchase my hands late this afternoon early evening felt like the day after my first motocross 53 years ago and I was young, 16, then. Voltaren applied and now I can type at speed :)
Go back out again tomorrow (need to have saws off at 1300 under IPL III) for another couple tanks tease those muscles back into shape.

I'm pondering at port and polish on one of the MS362's to see how that works out then think about the 462.

What does this mean?

You'll be happy with the new saw. My 460 has been a real good runner.
HA !! Four hours today and it's not hanging on to the 462 it's the bloody 'pickeroon'!! I just started to use after seeing one in use. The 462 is starting to open up after two more tank fulls today, liking it even more.

Fire season here has Public and Industrial Fire levels. Right now under Public "High" you can use chainsaws, power tools to a degree, off road equipment until 1000. When set to 'Extreme' restrictions are basically "do nothing" with power equipment. (now there are exceptions especially if your in the city). Industrial level has a higher standard of necessary equipment (300/500 gallon fire truck/trailer, precharged hose/pump, hand tools, dozer (something capable of building a fire trail) oh and a post work fire watch (IPL I is 1 hour, IPL II, 2 hrs). After IPL III it's call IPL IV or "Shutdown" and nothing much happens supposedly.

I've only hit on some highlights Waywestdesign has provided a link to the IPL, Public requirements are close by.

Agricultural operations can be exempted but if you start a fire you get to pay regardless. I've been told one call out with a chopper and bucket is $300K.

WOW.....That's something I've never experienced. Grew up in Wyoming and had some dry summers to be sure, but nothing like that. Thanks for the explanation.
