Craftsman Poulan 3.7 saws

So a couple weeks ago I came on here asking for help with a new to me 3.7 Craftsman and thanks to Wood Doctor and ray benson I got all the help I needed to get it up and running again. What was really cool is the very next day after I bought the grey saw, I found a red one on Craigslist that the guy said hadn’t been run in about 10 years or so. And all he wanted for it was a whopping $25 . And it came with a case to boot! I know I didn’t need it but at that price I just wanted it. I’m no expert when it comes to chainsaw repair but I do a pretty fair job and I continue to learn. Anyway, here’s a few pics. I have no experience with these saws but I really like how solidly built they are. I’ve always liked the old heavy saws for some reason. I put a nice cutting edge on the chains and was pleasantly surprised with the power. The first 3 show what condition the red was in when I got it home. New fuel lines and filter and she was ready for work. Amazingly the pistons on both were pristine.

I’m with you on a heavier saw. Granted, I’m not lugging it through the woods to make a living, but the Louisiana-made, metal body Poulans are my favorite.

Yep I did...it's almost as if both saws were barely used. I really lucked out on 'em. I was kinda hoping they'd need more work just so I could have a project to work on.

Just something about old saws I find satisfying to use. I did a bunch of clearing today using my old black and grey craftsman like yours and and old Homelite Super 2.

Absolutely! I have an old Homelite Super 2 that I love to use too. And my favorite "go to" saw is an old XL 12 that a nice old gent in Tennessee sent to me. New saws are certainly nice but like you said there's just sumthin' about them old saws that draws me to them.

Good find then, if thick ring, 3800, they would be ok, just not a strong as the thin ring 3700.

I got the green 3400 in that style. Nice old saw with original 16" bar.

You want OLD and HEAVY and ALL metal?
I got this 68cc Model 41 for ten. Not sure they ever had a Craftsman version of this one. Should be a good runner once I get a new fuel filter.
But the oiler's not working. So I been lookin for a suitable bicycle or trike to mount it on.
Picked up this old mountain bike for forty bucks at the pawn shop, because they thought the forks were shot. They liked to crapped their pants when I borrowed a portable jumper/compressor off the shelf and unscrewed the caps on top and aired them up.
But alas, I think the bike is too small for that chainsaw, and will be getting the direct drive weedeater treatment.

The search continues. Fat tire seems in order.

And I can't really say I love a heavy saw for usin, honestly.
But if I can get my recently acquired, circa-late-90's, 12-ish pound, 60cc, Poulan 3500 Timbermaster runnin like it should, it may covince me to sell the 372xp, Echo 490, Shindaiwa 491s, and the German Dolmar 421, and try to shake the madness and get back to a simpler way of life. Or I might just find a green or black bike.
This little saw has a real sweet feel to it even with the plastic side covers. Mag case and spring av and aluminum bar.

I give forty-seven for this clean machine. I'll keep the old 3400 for a backup.

Man that 41 is built like a tank...looks like about 16 - 18lbs empty

I have had several of those and they are one of my favorites. Its seems thou that the price of those have really went down hill in just the last 2-3 years. I sold two good running 3700s last year on Ebarf and a couple parts off them would have brought as much as the complete saws. I have several more really nice ones in that family so I may just look at them.

Ahh...thanks for the link. Looks like another nice chainsaw site I'll have to check out. So does Poulan make any good quality "new" saws or did that stop years ago?
