Hi,

Is there any interest in older "Brand New" chainsaws? I have a Craftsman/Poulan 3700 that has never been used. It has never had fuel in it; in fact it has never even been fully assembled. The bar has never been installed.

I know that with outboards; something that old would be starting to have "collector interest". Is that true with chainsaws?

She sure is pretty with that red paintjob.

Anyone here have any suggestions as to what I should do with this?

Thanks, Chuck

There has to be a story w/ this saw!!!

I have considerable interest in it but I am also a cheapskate, as most of the Poulan/Craftsman folks here are.
If that were a Stihl or Husqvarna of the same size, age and condition you would be feeling like a rabbit at Westminster right now!!!

I took the liberty of linking this thread over in the Poulan thread.
You have a captive audience of Poulan junkies there.

I hope you don't mind.

That series (3400, 3700, 4000) was among the last pro-grade saws made by Poulan. Sears sold tons of them, so they are still around in large numbers. Yours is unique in that it has never been assembled or fueled. I would keep it that way. I just bought 3 gray Craftsmans (Model 358.356091 = Poulan 3700) all in real nice shape at a pawn shop for $40 each. They have 20" bars. I will go through them to bring them up to snuff and ask $80 each. They are heavy but durable saws.

I have a red Craftsman 3.7. Mark, how would one know if it was a 3800 vs a 3700? And does it matter? ie, is it a different saw or just a different model number?

This is the only saw I have that isn't in my lineup because I haven't had an opportunity to give it attention.

There the same except the 3800 has a plain bore like the 3400 while the 3700 has a chrome bore with thin rings.

PM sent. If it's for sale it's got to have a price. I'd like to have a 3700.

It's model #358.354830.

Wow. All of a sudden I have a lot of interest in this saw. Some
of you have asked about it's "story". Well; I purchased it new
way back when my cousin had a cabin the woods and I thought I would
need it. But; he got divorced and....well....

It's sat in my house ever since; not even gathering dust because
it was inside it's cycolac case and the case was inside a plastic
bag.

I've never really had a use for it; but always thought I would
someday...so I kept it. It's just a Sears saw; not a big deal.
I'm interested in NOS stuff...especially outboards...and I imagine
that there are folks out there who would enjoy the original
condition of this saw; just as I would drool over a NEW IN BOX
outboard. You just don't see one every day...and something is
"original" only once. Restored is not the same thing.

I found arboristsite.com and thought I'd post there and see if there is any interest. Everyone's been very friendly and I appreciate that.

I don't know what the saw is worth...that's why I posted the
question. It's for sale in the same sense that everything's for
sale. I don't have an asking price yet.

Part of me wants to keep it; part of me wants to sell it to a
collector/enthusiast who would keep it as it is....and part of me
wants just to get $$$ for it and forget about it.

I hope you understand. I realize that it's not worth a fortune.

It's more important in a way to get it/keep it in the hands of
someone who will benefit from owning it.

So; thanks for the interest. If you wish to make an offer please
do so. I'll probably end up selling it fairly soon.

I'm in California right now. Consider the shipping costs to your
area if you make an offer.

Certainly not Mike. Thanks.

Where is "The Poulan Thread"? On arboristsite.com? Can you give me a link to it?

Thanks, Chuck

I checked the model # on Chuck's saw. It is indeed a 3700 (not a 3800) with PowerSharp.

Chuck just go back to the chainsaw forum index, then look at the top. Click "Stickies". You'll see the brand specific threads (including the Poulan thread) in the index that comes up. That's the dungeon that the brand specific stickies have been bannished to. Certain "connected" whiners with sand in their panties complained loud and often that the stickies were "cluttering up" the chainsaw section. The forum "powers that be" decided to creat said dungeon, so as to please the crybabies. I'm not bitter about that at all...:D

Damn that's one sweet saw, I actually still miss my 3700 :( I won't even make a offer there's a lot more guys that would enjoy this saw more then I would.

So what you're saying is that you're going to dance around the topic of price, and never actually put a price in public. Once you get a handfull of offers, you'll privately let everyone know that they need to up the game, and then sell it to whomever you can get the most out of? There is a place for that, and it is called ebay. There is also a place here for classifieds. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but there have been a few of these "what should I do with this" threads lately. If you want to sell the saw, put a price on it and sell it for that over in the classifieds.
