I had an earlier topic on this. I thought I would start a new thread with pictures. I met the guy and struck a deal on the 2 254's I paid $100 for both the saws. Both have been siting for 10 years. They were bought at an Air Force surplus auction. The one that still has the inspection sticker on the bottom needs a chain brake. It started one the 5th pull. It really runs good. I'm going to have a buddy replace the fuel line and filter and clean the carb and re tune. The other needs some work I think. They are both in great shape.

I took the saws to my friend that works on them. He fixed the one I am going to keep with a $2 spring. So now the chain brake works and the saw runs great. The other saw had a lot of stuff jammed around the clutch. He said it looked like they had been cutting railroad ties. Cleaned it up and it runs great also. e wanted one of the saws so we split the bill of $100 and each took a saw. I can't wait to cut with it.

They both look very nice, congrats!

...and it looks like both were made in 1989.

Does it say 254 SE or just 254 on the number plates?

One theory I have read is that the very first ones were designated SE/SG, then streight 254/G, and finally XP/XPG........
