Here's a combo pic of stuff I made in 2006 before I got really distracted by milling
Great set of tools, I've seen those before, along with the subsequent years. You make some great stuff.
They are M2 - the bevels were ground using a water cooled green stone surface grinder at work.
That is one cool setup, wish I had a surface grinder...but I was thinking I might be able to convert my horizontal mill into a grinder when needed as it is already the proper orientation.
It has micron level vertical adjustment.
Do you mean you can adjust it to a single micron, vertically?

That would be awesome!
I have worked with some O1 - here's a link to a post about some O1 plane makers floats I made a couple of years ago.
How would you compare the M2 to O1 in regard to edge tools? Isn't M2 HSS steel? I guess it would be easier to sharpen then O1 in that regard, or be able to hold a finer edge, at the expense of hardness, is that right? At least I know that is how O1 and A2 compare to each other, that O1 can achieve a finer edge, but at the expense of durability where the A2 kicks it in the rear. I can't remember if that is the case with HSS vs. O1 or not...I normally like O1 better than A2 and willing to sacrifice the durability to achieve the finer edge...just means a little more sharpening, not such a big deal...

FIne adjustment on the vertical was about 50 microns per turn so technically

Yep M2 is HHS. My limited experience is that most M2 is the same as A2, ie much more durable but won't get as fine an edge as O1. This was the reason we (group of us in Oz) went for a quality swedish M2 steel to make these blades, I bought in to build up the numbers they needed to buy a large sheet of M2. I haven't tried out these blades personally but the jury is undecided on whether they're worth the trouble

RE: matt9923: Got any pictures of you milling setup, I'm thinking about making one.
I wouldn't mind seeing it ether.
Matt, pics of my milling setups are in the Milling 101 sticky.
