First time posting in the milling forum. I just got a 36in grandberg alaskan 6-8months ago...

Replied to a post on craigslist for 2 free walnut trees thinking that if they were big enough the lumber i could mill would make some awesome furniture!

Got to his and found 2 large walnuts about 24in in diameter. Unfortunatly the owner got a little over zealous and felled one of them and bucked it into 20in logs.:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

OH i was boiling on the inside!!!!!!

Anyhow since I'm new to milling I also wanted to ask about drying chainsaw milled wood... Anyone got the link to a good "how to" thread on drying wood? I have a fall GTG at my place and have several guys coming that know how to mill and are going to demonstrate to the rest of us... Figure I better figure out drying racks for the walnut!!!!

Same thing happened to me with a 170 year old olive tree. It was 28" at the base and about 20" at the top of the trunk. Bucked by the tree lopper into ~10" long blocks!!
I ended up giving most of it away to wood turners.
