I have been planning on this build for a few years now. I know that sounds like a long time but ths project is on a slim budget and I have been gathering up materal here and there. I now have alot of steel to work with and thought it was time to get started. Here is the beams the log deck will be made from.

These are light poles from a parking lot. They were being removed and going for scrap. A friend of mine his company was clearing part the lot so it could be made smaller and more rental space added. The two larger ones are 5x5 and 29' long and the two smaller ones are 4x4 and around 25' long. they are 10 ga. All 4 of them for $100 seemed like a good deal to me. I split one of the 5x5's down the center to get 2 23/8" 5" c channel pieces for the sides and ends and for the center. The bed is 4' wide and 20'6" long.

This is as far as I got the other day. It has been raining on and off for 3 days. Should get some more done today and will update later.

Great deal on the posts! I never even thought of those as a source of rails. The one you split must have been plenty hot by the time you were done that job. Torch or disc?

Just one question: Just what is that behind your current project in this picture?

Brad that is a little pull behind bush hog I built several years back. i is a JD 36" single blade deck with a 14.5 briggs motor. the deck still has the spindle and is belt driven. kept bending blades from hitting rocks and it needed some fine tuning. started another one with a stump jumper and a flexable blade like a regular bush hog just lost interest somewhere
