Seen a video with a csm powered by a pushmower engine. Lil slow but it was a 4stroke engine. I got a 2stroke lawnboy engine 6.5 HP. Considering using it for a csm. Thoughts and opinions plz.

It probably still won't have the RPM needed for the required chain speed so you'd need to muck around with pulleys and belts. 6.5HP is not a lot to play with. You be better of doing all this will a ride on mower motor.

I like the "idea" of using an old riding mower.
Would use the mower engage mechanism to control the chain and belts/pulleys to increase chain speed.
Might even use the drive train to "push",

I'll never do it, but fun to engineer in my head. :)

Glad to know someone is thinking like me about the riding mower thing and the drive... My thoughts on the 2stroke mower engine was to clean it up a lil and change the timing to turn faster.prob still not enough.

I still think if I ported and tuned that 2stroke mower engine it would make a good csm engine.
Anyone else have thoughts?

You have been given good advice and the problem with the mower engine is low rpm which will limit chain speed and not utilize the extra hp well. Unless you run a really large drive sprocket or belts as Bob mentioned. If you still think its a good idea and think porting will solve this inherrent problem give it a go!

I know from reading Mr Bob's posts in other threds and mine that his advice is spot on. The way he explains things shows his knolage and experience. Most of what I know I have learned from my dad who holds 5 engineering degrees and also from men like Mr Bob. The reason I ask the question again is that a lot of what ppl say spark many different ideas for me. I definitely meant no disrespect, for I have nothing but respect for ppl I can learn from. Bible says "iron sharpenth iron so does a man sharpen the countenance of his friends." Thanks cr888.

Sparking ideas is a large part of what this forum is all about.

The problem with knowing a little, is that at first to you it seems like a lot, then once you realise there's still some way to go you are gaining some understanding, only when you finally realise how little you know that you can say you actually know something. Hum . . . . . that has to be approaching a "Rumsfeldism" of some kind?

I also like to remind others that if I do sound like I know something I'm standing on the shoulders of giants.

Thanks Mr bob. I also have a 13.5 Honda but its horizontal shaft. Could use a 90 gear box but thinking I would loose a lot of hp.
