Got the sawmill setup and operating, made a few cuts yesterday and a few today with the Norwood blade that was on the mill when I got it. I was noticing the dust was pretty thin, turning to powder but wanted to feel what it cuts like with a dull blade.

Hit a big knot which knocked the blade up in one spot, so I knew it was time for a new blade.

Then I put on a new Cooks Super Sharp, and cleaned up the top of the can't which I took a rise on. The knot was almost translucent in the sun, like a big pocket of sap that was hardened. I was kinda fascinated with it.

Bottom 5 are 8/4 which are 15" wide and 16.5' long. Top board is just shy of 3", it could finish out to a 12/4. Tucked away in my little storage area...I swear this structure has redneck or hillbilly heritage...a lean to between 2 cargo boxes...lol  One thing I might add is that I measured to the last board to see how consistent it was, and it was consistent along the entire length, so the mill bed is flat.

Here's the yard all closed up for bed...carriage is in the shed. Will try to get more pics, when I can get my camera on the right setting again...I had my camera on the wrong setting and all the pics are unviewable...:-/

They are 8/4. Have you seen 4/4 shelves, they look whimpy to me. And that top board is a 12/4, so don't be fooled, the ones below are smaller. I will keep hand tools on these shelves as well, I share my office with space I work on wood with hand tools only. I did find out that it's not a good place to work on chainsaws, the gas fumes are too much in the enclosed area and it lingers for a long time.
I adjusted it a bit more.

Oh yeah, and nice looking beams you have there.
That looks much better, maybe you could fix the over exposed ones...lol

I'll get some better pics soon. Good to get it up and running.

It depends on the timber, some of our hardwood just looks wrong at 8/4 and even 3/4 is more than enough

Yep - especially when it's hot.

That is much harder :)

I was using 3/4 maple, and laminated up a shelf, but it looks pretty whimpy in comparison to the corbels I made, which were a laminate of 3, 3/4" boards (actually 13/16, so about 2 1/2" thick). In this case I'll just make the corbels out of the same pine.

That much I figure...;)

I'll get better pics when I get back to the yard, didn't get down there today...stayed home looking for work.:(
