Hey all,
I've got a unique opportunity at my in-law's backyard; 25' cedar pole w/ 20" butt. I haven't done any in-tree removals (just pruning), though I've done lots of removals from the ground with the ol' facecut/backcut technique. I thought this would be a good tree to practice removal techniques.

Any suggestions on cuts to practice while spurred into this thing?

First off as your gonna hear, I hope you have someone instructing you or some training and appropriate gear. Next since you are going to go out and do it no matter what advise you get here, you should get used to making cuts with out getting bar pinched. Pay attention to the feel of the saw as the weight starts to close down on the cut and recognize when you have to back out. You could practice with a jump cut, its good for laying limbs out relatively flat to limit lawn damage when not lowering. Snap cut is good. But with that said you should be paying the most attention to just being safe and not getting hurt.

No branches on this tree, just a pole. I'm wanting to work on some 'chunk it down' techniques. And thank you, safety is most of what I'm wanting to practice.

If your going to be doing the spar only snap cut is a good one to learn.
