OK so no jokes from the BSM guys. I know you could cut 2x12's with your eyes closed but this is my shot at it with the 6" lucas mill.
I needed to cut 6 2x12's 20' long for the lean-to on the shop. I had 3 dead standing fir on my property and the largest was 22" so I figured that would do nicely. Since I was working by myself I did not want to have to remove the saw head and switch it to the other side for every cut so this is what I came up with.
Since I was cutting an actuall demention of 1 3/4" thick I made 3 cuts down one side and did not exceed the 6" depth capacity.
Then I put the wheels on the mill and turned it around the other way and made the 3 connecting cuts on the other side.
After the first three boards were free I kept going down that side with my next three cuts and moved the mill back over to the original side and finished them off. You can see the board on the right is pretty darn ugly. The alignment got off at some point.
In the end it did not cost me anything more than the fuel in the mill and my time.
Definitly a pain and not the nicest 2x12's in the world but it was a good challange.
