Cutting European / Japanese Larch. Any issues?

Hi there, I need to top a Larch and bring it down piece by piece so I'll be up there with it. Seem to remember something about Larch be brittle and prone to sudden breaking. Is this correct or am I getting it mixed up with things like Ash.
