I have options to get a hold of either a 394 full wrap with a 36"&404 or an 084full wrap with a 36"&404. Either for the right price. I have looked them both over real good and both are in fantastic condition. From what I can tell both saws would make fine additions to the collection and be good work horses for may years to come.

When I was driving saw in the past the biggest I had hold of for any length of time was a 2100(my boy named them both Paul) and for smaller jobs an 088. Big saws don't scare me, I know how to run them and work them instead of them working me.

I just don't know anything about these two saws other than just a little. The 084 was the precuser for the 088, which the 88 I believe to be a phenominal wood eater. I did have an 084 once but had to sell before I was able to even pull the cord my self one time. The 394 the precurser to the 395 I have never had hands on with either of the the Huskies but have heard from those with hands on, that both can lay down chip with the best of the best.

With out this falling into a Orange and white Vs. Orange thing cause I am not brand loyal. If it works and works well for me I don't care who makes it. For service and support reasons any of the others are not even options.

Which one would you get and why? I personally lean towards the 084 only because I have hand more orange and white in my hands than plain orange. I do know that Huskie can and does run right in tow with Stihl.

Hard call to make, please help me make an informed decision.

What says AS?

I would pick 394 due to better av and filtration, which imo, is good in big saw...

What will you be using the saw for? The 084 has the auxiliary oilier which is nice to have if you'll be milling with the saw or running long bars. I love my 084, a "little" (read a lot) heavy but if your not running it all day it's a blast to make chips with.

The 394 and the 084 is pretty far from each other in both power and weight, so I think the application should be descisive here - not the Stihl vs. Husky thing..........:greenchainsaw:

Ill have to go with SawTroll on this one. I own the 395 and 084, both of which are very mean saws. Mine were bought for milling as I dont think that I would want to lug them around all day cutting firewood. Heck just get em both and rest your mind a bit.

The application is mostly just to have a big saw:D. Secondary would be future milling, big nasty firewood mill toss out stuff, big second growth cutting side job and weekends kinda thing, and mostly just to have a monster wood eater. Gonna bolt up a 36" for sure on either on up to 50".

I have all the saws that I need, 460, 034, 2100, wifes 260. I have had an 084once but circumstances beyond control never let me even start it after the purchase. Between the two mostly for S&G I want the big'un. I like the sounds of the anti vibe on the husky like Blis touched on, I like the slimmer looking lines of Huskies but the just don't have that manly look that the Stihl does.

Weight isn't a concern for the most part, when I will need the power of the saw, packing the extra weight will well be worth the work. The rest of the time it will mostly be holding it's own weight.

I have what Freud might call saw envy. Bigger is better

I'd vote for the 394. It is far more practical, and will see far more use in your hands. If you want to get serious about milling, then the 084 takes the lead, but at the expense of a saw that won't see much time in your hands.

Get the 394 and have some fun.

I agree with oldsaw, for practicality the 394 would be the pick. But if you just wanna have one of the baddest saws out there then go with the 084. :greenchainsaw:

Spend a ten hour day behind either of those saws in 100 degree heat with the 100% humidity we get down here, then tell me if you still fell that way...

I'd get the 394,lighter and easier on the body to run...I have two 395's and an 088,and the 088 hardly ever gets used because the 395 will handle anything I'd use the 088 for, plus it's easier on the back at the end of the day
