Decompression valve plug?

Still working on my husky 340. It has a decompression hole i want to plug. Does anyone have a plug bolt laying around?
Here is the piston i replaced.

Do you think that a faulty decomp valve caused all the problems with the piston? Seems odd. But I agree that a 340 likely does not need a decomp valve to allow you to start it.

Original jug did not have one. Muff mod may have caused it.

Does not look like an air leak to me. Looks like it caught a ring. Was that ring in pieces when you pulled the piston? Looks like a lot of blow by, guessing saw needed a ring replaced from use. Do not see much scoring, but piston slap, yes.

It's rather hard to believe that this engine even ran or tried to run after the damage that you show here. The top end of this engine was destroyed.

The correct size thread Mushroom headed Allen bolt trimmed to length & copper washer makes a neat job

Afriend gave a #8 pipe plug and it fits perfect.
