How are the depth gauges set on a chain when using a grinder?

Thanks,

Maybe I have .02 cents worth? But not fallowing your question, are you asking at what hight the DG's set at? as it is the same as if your doing them with a file.

Or how the grinder stop is set to establish the DG's?

setting

Just like if you were hand filing, you need a depth gauge, guage[Lay it on the chain.Make a mark or give it a good eye ball, and bring the wheel down.No power yet.Now adjust your wheel height with the adjuster.Do this lightly. You can always take more off but you can't put it back on.Your top angle gauge should be set on "0"Now do every one.

Shoefast,

Thanks for the reply. My question is how is the grinder used to set the dg. It is obvious how the grinder works on the cutter, but I am not clear how it physically grinds the dg. Does one operation sharpen the cutter and set the depth gauge at the same time or is it two separate motions. I do not own a grinder yet, I am sure that if I did it would be clear.

Yes, What they said, and the Cheap chain grinders will not do the dg's at all.
You have to do the depth guages sperately with a file, as if you had no grinder at all.
