Does anybody recognize this old saw?

According to <a href= "http://www.wwforum.com/faqs_articles/sears_numbers.html"> this list,</a> sears prefix 917 belongs to AYP products.

But...I also happen to know that AYP is the modern remnant of several of Sears former suppliers, controlling the trademarks of such names as King-Seeley, Frigidaire, Gibson, and Roper (all of which Sears once owned big pieces of).

That saw was made by Roper. I doubt if you will ever see one branded by anyone other than Sears, however. Roper was able to move a few lawn mowers and garden tillers under their own name, but not many.

That saw's engine is power-products engine, and some parts may be available from a Techumseh dealer...most small engine shops can get them. Look around on the fan shroud, or stamped into the crankcase near the reed valve assy, or even on a tag made of brass shim stock for a number like AH-47, or AH-58. the 47 was about 4.7 cu in, the 58 was about 5.8

Your saw is in not bad shape for one of these old devils...I don't think they knew how to prepare those old David Bradley/sears saws for paint, as I 've seen lots of them with out much of any paint on them.

I said I didn't think one would ever see a "Roper" branded chain saw.
