My demented experience with the local Chapter (Ontario) of the ISA is that it sucks when it comes to returning emails or responding to voicemail messages. A brief summary of late: Their ISAO office moved in June, I paid membership dues in August. Received nothing, including no replies to emails I sent them.

So I ratcheted things up a notch by forwarding copies of those emails to the ISA.

Apparently, (according to the email I subbsequently received from the ISAO), when you change your physical address....."The accounting process involves re-inputting all the financial data from Jan 1, 2012 to the present on a transaction by transaction basis."
Huh???? And here I thought that when you move, you just plug your computer back in, and away you go.

I'm wondering if any of youse have experienced being shunned by the Mother ship? Any succesful strategies for re-tethering, and re-establishing that loving maternal bond?
 
Anybody running their tree biz like this would go belly up in short order. I replied to this asking either for a refund, or have my 2012 dues extended over 2013. No reply back from them yet.

We have confirmed with the ISA International Office that you did make a payment in August, 2012 for your certification and the ISA Ontario Chapter membership ($110.00).

Unfortunately, at that time the ISA Ontario Chapter was being transferred from one location to another and we did not receive any documents, files, computer, etc until August 20 and therefore were not aware of this transaction.

Please be aware that the transition in accounting and administration for ISAO is an onerous task Joe and I have been working diligently to sort through the files. The accounting process involves re-inputting all the financial data from Jan 1, 2012 to the present on a transaction by transaction basis. Plus learning the day to day policies and procedures for the Ontario Chapter and the ISA International Chapter.

We understand your frustration and hope that you will remain a member of the Association. I can forward you the copies of the Ontario Arborist magazine that you did not receive.

Please advise how you wish to go forward with this issue.

That sucks. I have had nothing but good from the Western Chapter. I just renewed my CA and chapter, they said at first that they needed my code of ethics signed but they took my payment and I sent out the code of ethics signed that day.

Dave you know my pains as well! I have had the run around about my enquiries and stuff this past week as well....guess they might be on dial up internet and check their messages when they want? Not impressed either. TCIA on the other hand are awesome by replying fast on any matter and is a pleasure dealing with them.

The ISA staff at the TCI Expo booth were pleasant and helpful.
Even offered me free shipping to Canada on some CA vehicle magnet decals.

The local Chapter is dysfunctional - wanted to attend their annual conference & write the CA exam last February. They took 2 weeks to finally respond. By which time the novelty factor had worn off.

Nah, you gotta run a bigger outfit (mebbe be a "sustaining member" - $$$) to hang with the big dawgs in the ISAO old boys network.
 
I think that being offered to have the year's publications finally sent to me, now, at the end of the year, is like a car salesman ignoring you for months, and then telling you he will sell you a 2011 model in 2012 for full sticker price! Great deal, eh!

the october newsletter mentioned a change in directorship. hope they catch up.

Sorry to hear that. Nothing but good out of the midwest chapter...always prompt on phone and email responses.
