If its running well it's a better saw than what you'll usually get for it. If you're not desperate for the cash, best to keep it for backup.

A dated design from the 1980s, and a sheaper and less performing version of the 115 = not much.

Not a bad saw though.

Trol, there is no difference between a later 111i and 115i except the bar length, clutch type, and the decal on the chain cover.

Check the later IPL and compare the part numbers. The i versions of the 111i and 115i have the same cylinder and piston.

In the series' first offerings of the '80's, the 111 was a open port and the 115 was a closed port? This is according to some of the early IPL's. I do not know how true it is or if the IPL's can actually be believed?

I have several 111 cylinders and they are all closed port.

I have a 1997 111i and it pulls a 18" .325 chain with a 8 pin rim with authority.

The part # of the common cylinder assembly is 027 130 032

The page from the IPL is below

Thanks for all the responses. I think I like the saw. I'll just keep her for a backup. It doesn't seem to rev high, but it cuts very consistent torque wise....

I wonder why the power rating was so different then? There has to be a reason (or more).

Also remember that IPLs are about spare parts, not always the same as the original ones.....

Edit; Also, the 1989 IPL tells that both the cylinders and the pistons are different, while the 2004 one lists the same. :msp_wink:

Very true, but if you look at the first page of that service manual, it is dated February 1993.

Also if you go down the SM to where it shows the cylinder for the 111, it shows an open port.

I assume they just quit keeping the open port Cylinder as a spare part at some point - it won't be the first or last time something like that happened.

111i is a good saw, right there with the 115, kinda like the 359/357

Some say the 359 is better eh?

Reading factory owner's manuals, service manuals, and illustrated parts manuals can be miss leading.

None of the details may be exactly correct because of dates written or manufactured, parts availability, etc.

Currently the replacement cylinder assembly number for the 115 and 111 series is the 027 130 033. But at one time the replacement numbers were different.

Take notice that in the service manual when they list the different power ratings, they also list a higher rpm for the 115i. Yet the unlimited coils and carbs are the same.

At times the manufacturers will show higher ratings on simular models because they charge more money for 115.

The HP ratings in brochure are just some figure they pulled out of the air hype anyway and cannot be absolutly believed.

There was a recent discussion about Husqvarna 500 series chainsaws where two models showed the same replacement parts in the respective IPL's, but one dealer member with both chainsaws disassembled, assured us that from the factory the parts were visually different on the chainsaws.
