That's funny. 5.2kW is 7 hp.

That's funny.

I just copied and pasted that information from the chainsaw site.

For others that may be interested......... I based my post on information posted at http://www.acresinternet.com/ and did not intend on misleading potential buyers.

Sorry for the misinformation.

Yeah, I gathered where you got it from, and I wasn't condemning your for it.  I just thought the HP rating was funny given the believable kW rating.  I wonder how the SAE net power was derived.

Dolmar ratings

It seems that all the Dolmar ratings,on Mikes site,are a little overstated .I saw one,that was rated 4.5 kw,but had a 10 hp rating also.Most likely an advertising ploy,or something.They rate a 166,at 12 hp,more likely 8.5 or so,or they got secrets they ain't a tellin.:)

The "SAE net" ratings were a little different somehow.  Wasn't it in the early '80s the auto manufacturers went away from the system too?

Yep

I think they went from SAE gross to SAE net.If you look at the HP ratings of the cars of the 60's,they all are little higher than would be expected. This could be the case with Dolmar.Another example,is a saw I own.It is a McCulloch Super 44a,5.3 cu in.On an advertisement,it gave the hp rating at 6.5.I would say, that it is around 1 hp,too high. There are many ways,to measure hp,some are misleading. The true measurement,on electric motors,is 746 watts per hp.Yet some manufactures have used the term"developes" such and such power, when the crux of it,is the motor will stand an overload for a short period of time.I don't weant to derail the gents thread, sounds like a neat saw,but I thought it was sold,a while back:confused:

It was not just Dolmar that rated in HP years ago. Every manufacturer used HP in the early 80's and before. Today kW and bHP are used. These numbers are more accurate to determine. The old HP ratings well you could just about put whatever you wanted to and prove it in some form or fashion.
