When those first started becoming available there was alot of intrest in them. Now that they've been out for alittle bit, how are people liking them? Haven't seen much on them lately.

I love mine. 4.0HP at 11 lbs for <$400 is a very compelling package.

I'd also say that Dolmar is a better designed/more fully featured saw then Stihl and 80% of my saws are Stihls. (which I still like).

If Dolmar can set up some dealers (B&M and internet) and get a parts distribution system up on the internet then maybe they can get to critical mass here in the US. However if they follow the Stihl model of only selling parts via B&M dealers then they're doomed.

As much as I love Dolmar, I wouldn't buy one if it were my only saw and depended on it day in/day out to put bread on the table. (I don't doubt they're reliability but parts ordering could take longer then Stihl if you have to deal with their small base of B&M dealers.)

I've had a chance to run one (belongs to Timistal) but it's having some carb issues. Still haven't been able to get a feel for it's true potential. Saw is going back to the builder tomorrow.

did you ever try too get parts for a dolmar lately? and what do you dislike about the saw being you would not use one to put bread on the table.

There is absolutely nothing I don't like like about this saw!! It's the best saw I own. I've also been thinking about picking up a PS7900.

The point I was making is that parts ordering could take awhile unless you have a Dolmar dealer in the area. I could order Makita chainsaw parts online but I don't see that Dolmar has any online parts dealers setup yet. If I had only one saw that I depended on for my livelyhood and couldn't afford to wait for parts, then this would be a concern. I have no doubt that parts are avail. but getting them could invlove some shipping/ordering delays.

PS5100S is awesome! Starts and runs great and is very smooth. Lots of torque and rpms. Mine has about 20 tanks thru it and it has definately gained some power from when I first ran it. Timinstall's carb problem is the first one i've heard of. Is is actually a factory defect or something the builder forgot to correct/adjust before it went out?

What is the carb issue with the PS-5100s?

There is something up with the carb. I couldn't keep up with skwerl's 200T. All I could do is go back to my 346xp.

I would be interested in getting the carb that you reference timistall. I have not heard of any problems with the carb and want to be abreast of any problems with any Dolmar espeically the new family of the 460, 510 and 5100. If you have the carb and are interested in sending it to me, please do. I will send you a PM for the address to send it to.

I have had no trouble with the 5100's period , no carb problems and the saw works very well and is strong.

besides the power and weight differences, how are the ps-5100s and the ps-510 different. Would a modified 510 keep up with a 5100 and what is the price difference?

Well, I got mine last nite, and took some videos today of it cutting on pipe. It'll be a while before I edit them. Went skiing tonite, it was great. and got lots of work to catch up on as my ehp346, ehp357, ehp 372, Walker's 372, and PS7900 PP.....

Great work as usual, Ed. What a gutsy saw....wow, does she scream with that pipe on!!!

ain't she a beuaty, my Dolmar hotsaw.. and gettin' hotter...eh?

The 510 uses aluminium crankcases and the 5100 uses magnesium so you have a weight difference. You could put the coil from the 5100 on the 510 to get the extra rpm. Price difference is about 100 between the two.

Roger, Your new dolmar looks great. Did you get your email?

Dolmar Tech Mgr, the PS-510 also has a different cylinder than the PS-5100s?

Thanks for the reply, if the 510 had the 5100 coil would power output be similar?

Probably not, it is not that simple.

There are versions of the PS-5000 (not 5100) without that coil, and the max power output is still 2.8 kW.....
