I have a Makita DCS-6401 and want to switch it over from .325 pitch chain to .375 pitch, as I have on my PS-5100.

Will Husky/ Jonsered or Stihl rim sprockets be compatible with the Dolmar clutch drum? I have no dealer for Dolmar in my area and was wondering if any of the local dealers for the other brands could supply the parts.

Hi Rob, I have NEVER seen .325" on a PS6400 chassis there is no reason at all for this to have .325" was it that way when you bought it??
Oregon #68210 3/8-7 drive rim
Oregon #22273 3/8-8 drive rim
Dolmar 119224070 3/8-7 drive rim

Your PS5100 uses a small spline drive rim Oregon #18720

So Scott, I will have to run the Dolmar rim sprockets though right? No common Husky or Stihl rims are interchangeable (like the big Husky bar working on the Dolmars)?

That is not what he is saying, just that the same rims doesn't fit the 5100 and the 6401, because of different spline diameter - and that .325 on a 6400 is an oddity (it is).

The small spline ones come in .325x7, .325x8 and 3/8x7, and fits the 5100.

The large spline ones come in .325x9, 3/8x7, 3/8x8, and some larger sizes that are not relevant here.

Sprocket brand doesn't matter in these sizes, and .375 is the same as 3/8".

PS, I suspect that you may have got it wrong in the first post, and that what you have is 3/8" on the 6401, and .325 on the 5100....

I suggest that you standardize on 3/8" (.375), and not .325.
The smalles .325 rim that will fit the 6401 etc, is 9-pin, which is about the same diameter as 3/8x8, and probably is unsuitable with longer bars....

OK, I clearly understand that .375 = 3/8", and yes, I would like to standardize both saws to run the same chain/bar combos to open up my options.

Perhaps I misjudged the Makita chain and I will re-check today. The thing that is perhaps throwing me off is that the chain tooth profile is so low (safety chain crap); the 5100 has a proper full chisel chain and it looks much bigger from all angles.

As for the rim sprocket question I had originally, the fact that 5100 uses a different rim sprocket ID than the 6401 makes perfect sense to me and is the case with many other saw brands.

The question remains, can I use any rim sprocket brand other than Dolmar and/or an Oregon made specifically for a Dolmar? I have no Dolmar dealer in my area (but I do have a Stihl, Husky and Jonsered dealership with plenty of rim sprockets in stock), that's why I ask.

Yes, most of the posters above inferred that all saw brands use the same sprocket part numbers. Only difference is the small vs large spline...

The 5100 use the small husky mount (Oregon K095), and the 6400 the large Husky mount (Oregon D009), so that is not possible, regarding bars.

Yes. :)
