I had a chance to use my new Dolmar 7900 today. The weather was around zero and it started and ran great. Had the 24" bar burried in dead elm; very impressive power. I'm running 32:1 as recomended by this site, anything else I should be doing? Thanks

I have a suggestion or two - Tell everyone how much you like the 7900 and enjoy yourself along with keep me posted as to how the 7900 works for you.

Inspired, I went out this afternoon and looked at one at a relatively local Makita store (nearest Dolmar dealer is a couple of hours away) - it has an awesome nice balance in it - I think its the way the handle bar comes around the top - it feels like your left hand is at a better control point on the saw, esp compared to the 372. I noticed that if you press the bar at say 10" out (to represent an average location of resistance in a cut), your two hands and the "cut resistance point" on the bar will form a vertical triangle which parallels the bar. The way the bar comes round more forward on the Husky 372, that is awkward to achieve -- your left hand seems more comfortable out to the left, putting a tilt in the triangle - not that Huskies can't cut straight, but you do have to kind of carry a little twist in your hands. Both weigh in at about 17.5 (measured) with 20" bar, but the 7900 somehow feels lighter. I've made my decision, no doubt about it ... now all I've got to do is scrape up the wherewithal ... here we go again

hope the full wrap option will be available on the east coast ...

The handle is designed for beter ergonomics for the feel and balance. A lot of little features liket the one you make reference to in the handle go by the way side as many people over look such things as this. We at Dolmar however do not overlook the little features. FW is coming soon. I will post here as soon as it is available.

Another thing I measured ...

is that although the weight is the same, but the body of the saw is 1" longer !!!

From its breast to its backbone (from the front of crankcase to rear of handle) the Dolmar 64-79s measure 18". The Huskies measure just under 17", and I suspect that the Stihl 440s might be a little smaller still. This would put your two hands and the saw's center of gravity (and center of cut forces) closer together, which would reduces your "leverage" in controlling the saw ...

Maybe it's kind of like widening the wheelbase on a car, or standing with your feet wider apart. That extra 1" of "saw-base" puts my shoulders at 45 and gives me a wider and more natural hold of the saw. It's a nice fit for me.

I will add however, that I was wondering about the capacity of the air filter ...

??-the robkoflok is the silver-grey one, called "fleece," ?? and the nylon filter has the smooth tan colored fabric, like shammy cloth ?? is that right ...

You got it, anytime you can put your hands further apart the load will be easier to handle.

Regarding the air filter. The underside is a pleated shape to make for a larger surface area and also the saw is equipped with the air master system that helps keep the large dirt particles out of the air box.

Regarding the two air filters you have it backwards - the tan colored fabric is the fleece filter and the silver-grey one is the nylon filter. The nylon is more for winter use to reduce the chance of the filter icing up.
