Should just be the tank vent. Normally you wouldn't hear it, but I imagine they could make some noise if you were paying attention. Crack the gas tank open to release the pressure, then see if it stops.

If it runs okay and doesn't leak, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

nope, you don't have to pay attention, my 5100s was doing it today. i had the radio up pretty loud cutting and splitting firewood, and could hear it over that. kinda like a whistle. I checkedit out, and yup, it was the tank vent.

Beat me to it!
I noticed my new 7900 doing that today too!

Why is it doing that?
None of my other saws do.

New EPA saws have a one way tank vent. They let air in to equalize the pressure while the saw is running but it doesn't account for ambient pressure increase when sitting, meaning it will not let air out of the takn vent.... Woth The newer saws, it is normal. That tank will be pressurized when not running.....part of the reason they start easier, the extra "pressure" primes the carb and will start in quicker pulls than convention two way tank vents.

All of my 7900's and my 5100 have done this at some point in time. don't pay too much attention to it.

Omg

Yea, my 7900 does it also. Noticed it right off the bat dude. What it's saying to you is "if you can hear me, then your slackin and not doing what your supposed to be" LMFAO. I like it, I think it's a nice little trait actually. Never had one do it that loud. Rock on brotha Dolmar owners...

My buddy who is a serious husky guy ran it side by side with his 288xp this weekend, we didn't have time for a film. He could not believe it. Not even close. He said it sounded like a Stihl, but felt smoother than any husky he'd ever touched. Will have films next week for sure though... He said he's trading his 372 and his 288 for the 7900...
