I have a 36" stump I need to grind out. This will be my first time grinding....and will be using a rental unit. Any idea how long this may take with a Dosko 357? Just trying to determine how long to rent the machine for.

Thanks for any help.

All day if you're a big manly man as I've never seen a rental unit that worked just right or had anything even close to a sharp tooth on it.

One 36" stump, you might come out cheaper to just have a stump service grind it for you. I know I could grind it cheaper than you could rent that crappy Dosko for a day and then you wouldn't even have to break a sweat.

The last one I rented the teeth were very dull, the wheel lock didn't really lock the wheel, and the bar you have to hold to keep the engine running wouldn't keep the engine running unless you had FULL force on the left side.

I told the rental guy that they really need to get those teeth sharpened and he told me that the factory told them that as long as there is carbide on the tooth, it's fine and doesn't need anything. lol

What he said!! Hire someone - it will be cheaper and a whole lot easier!

We occaisionally rent a small grinder like this (usually a Bluebird) to do stumps we can't access with our regular machine (Bandit 2100). The first thing I ALWAYS do is bring the machine back to the shop and grind the teeth. It doesn't take me that long and the difference in performance is worth the time and effort.

Because we are a full service company, we don't reject jobs that are a pain, only if they are physically impossible. However, we price those jobs sufficiently to cover the rental and low productivity.

That's why I bought an Alpine.

I have a 357 Dosko. If the carbides are sharp, and the stump is flush cut, 4 hours would be PLENTY of time to knock out a 36” stump. Be sure to have a rake and a shovel to level out the area after the chips build up. It makes wrestling the thing much easier.
