Double braid rope I know is made best for false crotch rigging. But is it ok to use it in natural crotch rigging? I would like to know if it will last using it for both natural and false crotch rigging.

I used to use the arborplex bull rope years ago but have been using the sampson Stable braid or double braid (always get the name confused) since around 1999. It's the 3/4 orange rope. I use it in the block and natural crotch with it and it holds up well. I know it's not supposed to be the best for natural crotching but my experience is that it works just fine for natural crotching and doesn't wear any quicker than any of the other bull ropes I have used. Just my .02

About how long does it last under normal use? 1 or 2 years or so?

Natural Crotch Rigging

If you stick to smooth crotches and light loads, rope holds up quite well. Even super smooth like sycamore with heavy load will create much heat and burn/melt rope. Turn on a block and rope will last indefinitely-ish?

I have 3 lowering lines 1/2", 9/16" and 5/8" and they are all about 2 years old. All stable braid. I'd say under regular use a rope will last about 2 years. But it depends on how heavy you rig and how hard you and the ground crew are on ropes. ie groundy cuts it in half the first day... then 1 day.... Mike

I'm on my second year with the one I have now. It was used hard last year due to the ice storm and work load. I have trimmed both ends but it is holding up pretty well. I mostly rig with 1/2 rope and only break out the 3/4 for heavy rigging like blocking the spar so mine lasts a pretty good while. I have used one as long as 3 years before. I'm on like my 3rd one since 99 I believe.
