Double ended bars

When you're doing the big slabs and using 2 power heads, how important is it that they match pretty closely in power rating? For instance, could you put a 361 and a 372 on the same bar? I'm not going to do it, just something that I started wondering about.

This question was posted a while back, I think. I think it was suggested that matching rpms was the key to making it work. I've seen in older publications some of the will malloff pics of double 076's or even 090's on big mills. The pics I've seen always have the same saw model, but the info always said keep them tuned up & at the same RPM on an electric meter, or they will kinda work against each other. Seems to me that if you have an RPM meter, it wouldn't be too hard.

Wish I had an extra hand to help me rolling logs & stacking boards more than I want the extra speed!!

just thought again; the 361 & 372 have different bar patterns, don't they?? I guess you could use an adapter plate. Sure would keep you from having to buy another saw.

I don't put a lot of stock in the "two matched powerhead" theory. As long as the working RPM was lower than the maximum of the slower saw, the slower saw would be helping the bigger one. It's about total available power. When I was up in the boundary waters in MN many years ago, they would send a boat out with a 10hp and a 15hp motor. Some lakes had a 10 or 15hp limit, and others didn't, so both motors would be used. It made a big difference in power on the boat. I can't see how this is any different.

There's a few lakes around here with a 10hp limit also. Lotsa 20 and 25 Mercs with 9.9 stickers on the shrouds running on those ones.

The boat motor isn't a good comparison because the two motors aren't trying to run the same prop simultaneously, they're two totally separate powertrains. I guess tho that they are connected by the boat and...... it's too early in the morning for me to think about this. :help:

Ha,my brother and I had a Merc 55 hiding behind a 40 HP cover.A "sleeper" so to speak. Needless to say it would smoke a 45 HP Evinrude.
