Roots from some live Oaks have damaged this asphalt driveway to the point the home owners car was scraping when driving over them. We removed the uplifted asphalt and exposed the root.
The root feathers out at the end and becomes a mat of feeder roots.
The home owner want to put cold patch over the roots and make a raised speed bump over them. Over the main root maybe, but you can't cover those feeder roots with asphalt. They wanted concrete poured over them at first. I hope I talked them out of that.
I was thinking packing sand over them or gravel, at lest over the part where they spread out and become feeders.
Any ideas? Its not my job, but I could have some say in the matter if I(or one of you)came up with a realistic solution, by that I mean cheap and durable. Any ideas would be welcome thanks. BeastmasterView attachment 178737View attachment 178738

driveway

remove a strip of asphalt across the driveway, over the root mass. Fill area with crushed stone, roots can do their job and cars can use driveway. just an idea.

Remove a 4' wide strip; give it a clean edge and saw it off. Cover with 3"-4" of AB3 (crusher-run) gravel, then cover it with 2" of regular hot patch asphalt. Once raked and rolled, cool off the asphalt with water.

It takes a long time for heat to go through 3" of gravel, particularly if it is dry. Avoid wet AB3, as the moisture will turn into steam.

You should get a gentle berm over the root, and then you can always give it another 2" of asphalt with no worries.
