Things always slow down for me in the winter months, and they stop dead during the holiday season. I'm trying to get back on my feet. I sent newsletters to all of my customers, and am trying to think of new ideas. What do you guys do to drum up winter sales?

I just sit it out and wait,i've learnt over the years that theirs no point flogging a dead donkey,I walked miles years ago putting out flyers ,and wasted a lot of money sending out news letters.Total waste of time imo, your better off planning for the year and doing maintenance.

My guess is you haven't been in business long? when you get established ,work will come in this time of year,be it only a trickle..

try calling on people and tell them your slow, sell your winter work in the summer.

Diversify. now's the time to sell fertilization, because next month is the time to do it.

Shrubs are woody plants that respond to the same pruning principles as trees. Winter is a great time to prune shrubs and fruit trees.

Process leaves into mulch. Most landscape trees can benefit from a wider natural area around them, and the best mulch is what fell off the tree, chopped up.

Look to local schools and garden clubs. Volunteer a little and get referrals.

Residential- past customers who have wanted work done but couldnt afford it this past year were informed if they would like to wait to Dec-Jan we could discount. If they dont call us, we call to remind them that our discount is now if they still would like it done

Commercial- no discount. we usually get to schedule these jobs at our convenience. New budgets get established in January. Therefore we try to move in on these contracts right away if they come back signed before pre-Feb.

Long as we keep doing these things we can keep steady, not swamped, but steady.
