would like to build a dry sauna that is wood fired seen some high dollar heating units. anyone built one or have any ideas or do you think it would be to hard to regulate temp? i would have no problem with the stucture but the heater is what has me stumped.:monkey:

The Finns had the right idea, we copied a local. The sauna building can be anything small and cozy enough for you two, or close friends  .
We built an 8'x8' shed with benches on 2 sides, a cedar floor laid with 1/4" spacing between boards for drainage, 2 corner windows from the dump. The wood stove was one we brought up from Massachusetts: a green porcelain Jotul 602. The porcelain is important since there'll be plenty of water thrown around for cooling ( or a roll in the snow or jump in cold water --fun ....really when you're hot  ), or for our cleanup after the work building our first "camp". Any small stove will do the job to get the temp in the sauna up to the mid hundreds. We didn't go for the "whipping of the branches" part of the Finnish ritual. :hmm3grin2orange:

Steam

What's the matter? your hands are not cracked enough? This time of the year is brutal for dry skin and sinuses. I have a steam unit that I installed in my shower when i built the house. There is NOTHING like steam....Nothing! Spend the money for a steam unit....I have a thermosol unit. It produces constant steam until it gets up to temp. http://www.thermasol.com/

We love cracks. Go sauna: healthy, fun, natural, goes well with brews. Try that in a fossil-fueled "steam room". :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Besides, who wants something called "thermOsol" or thermAsol":hmm3grin2orange:

Wagner makes a wallpaper steamer for $50. Did a stripping job in a kitchen and left it on when we went for lunch.......it was like a sauna when we got back. :) YMMV
