Lubricate that little hole with fine oil. Drill from both sides centering the rivets enough to cut away a circle to show the hard steel. Using your handy household 110v plasma cutter, freehand through the hardened steel and cool with water right away. Poke a course round tapered file into the hole to clean it up a bit, then try to fit a drill in there. Worked on my Jonsered. Your mileage may vary.

Plasma cutter gives me an idea. Do you think it could be done with an EDM? They're pretty easy to build.

I'm not familiar with electric discharge machines, but sounds like a fun build.

That gave me a risky idea: turn the welder up and blow through with a 3/32 6011 farmer rod, or a small gouging rod. Probably mask everything against spatter and practice on a friends saw.

Dave , edm is a bit over kill . Their is berrings in the tip i would be afraid when the plasma gets one side done it would over heat the berrings before blowing through . Carbide end mill and coolant is fast but go slow .
