I have a echo 5500 and have tried to do a search a couple of times on how to defeat the carb govenor. I dont even know where to locate it. I have already opened the muffler and lightly ported the cylinder.

thanks
jason

I'm not aware of any modern chainsaw with a carb governer. Pretty much all rev limiters are electronic, controlled through the ignition coil.

The Walbro website lists the HDA-53-1 for the echo 5500. It gives a parts list and an exploded view of the carb. It looks to be governless. Initial carb adjustment should be 1 1/4 turns open for both the low and high speed mixture needles. High speed should be in the 12,000 to 13,000 rpm range. There is a warning in the Intertec manual for your saw- Do not adjust high speed mixture screw too lean as overheating and engine damage could occur.

thanks I didnt realize that it was on the older saws that had the govenors. I have been wanting to do some mild work to a saw for a while. Ill put it back together and give a whirl and see how it runs .

thanks
jason
