I want to mod the muffler on this thing and want to know if its worth my effort to cut the entire thing open, or should I just drill a few holes in it as it sits now? Any pics or advice on this muffler i would greatly appreciate. I'd really like to remove whatever is in it that weighs so much-it weighs a ton! I want best performance + weight reduction.

What are your thoughts on keeping the side exit exhaust vs blocking that off and welding on a front mounted exit? I was thinking two small front ports-only bc it'd be cool and fun to run

Also what is the best way to open it up that allows you to weld it back up with minimal hassle? I was thinking a thin hacksaw blade and was going to reweld it back up w/ a harbor freight 90amp flux core wire welder? I think even a thin cutoff blade would remove too much material vs a hacksaw. I do not have a band saw at this time.

PS if anyone has a used muffler for this saw for sale or knows of another one that bolts up to it LMK i'd be interested in purchasing it.. thanks.

Bought a newish Echo CS-310 a while back, that muffler was heavy and packed full of catalytic crap.

Drilled it out, and opened up the muffler outlet , and it made a big difference, made the saw snappier and more responsive. Had to retune a little but well worth it, even on a 30cc saw. Would run a lot cooler I reckon too. I'm picking the muffler on yours would be pretty similar.

to do it right you will need to open it up because of the way it is made,, lets rephrase that,, the easiest way is to open it up

Thanks for the responses so far guys-Yes this offset cat is a problem. Its either drill holes (and keep the cat in there just bypassing it some) or cut it open... any thoughts on hacksaw vs cut off wheel? If i do, do this I'll try to document with pics..It will be a fun little project, i just want to do it on a spare muffler so i can take my time and still have a working saw-any sources for used mufflers for this saw?
