Echo CS-900-EVL

I have an old and low hour Echo CS900-EVL, 30" windsor bar, .404 pitch Oregon chain, plus 5 extra chain loops, new sprockets and extra parts, owners and service manuals. I'm getting too old to manhandle a 90cc chainsaw, but it runs like s**t off a shovel. Religiously mothballed. Seems like a valuable saw, but I now live in Stihl country - nobody wants it. My question is, your own avarice aside, is this old girl worth anything? If so, can you give me an estimate bracket? I don't want to give her away, but she deserves batter than hanging in the barn................Thanks, BD

There is no "echo country" unfortunately...just a small fringe group of oddball collectors like myself. 350 seems low, but its hard to get money when its not a husky or stihl. Shoot me some pictures [email protected] is my email.

Well its a old saw without a cult following. What did you have in mind? I have one already but I don't think its worth that or much more. In the end its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I see your from OR state and fwiw I bought one from near Portland while I was there a couple years ago. It was in very good shape and had a long bar with .404 chain. If memory serves I think I gave like $250 or so for it.


If you want more then $350 out of it, Ebay is the place to list it. You have to deal with all that entails but if someone out there just has to have one for his Echo collection it might bring lots more. Be a man about it and start it at like $50..

Yeah the smaller Echos will often sell for more than the big ones. The bigger old ones really had no upside, they were heavier in many cases and made the same or less power, with no dealer network. A 900 isn't a practical firewood or carrying saw...it would look hella good hanging on my wall with occasional use...

Well really the 900 is the one Echo off hand that I would say has the power to go along with its weight. I'm guessing you have never ran one.

Ran a number of bigger old Kyoritsu/Echo saws when i worked for a dealer, one standout was a model 802 i rebuilt, incredible saw with a 20" hardnose bar...weighed a ton, and the recoil was, unreliable. Im sure over 3 years i ran a 900 but it doesn't stand out like that big flat topped 802 did. Talking about going up against the likes of the 051av at the time, it was knocking on 6hp...

I remember the Echo 802 I have had my hands on one. What you call incredible I call very odd. Its not comparable to its bigger brother the 900 .

Thing is about the 900 today is it never was a common saw and parts are very hard to come by if you can find them at all. I'm talking parts like AV mounts, intake boots, clutch parts, oiler parts. The crank seals you can get as those are standard metric seals.

So basically any of common use parts you cant get, and if those parts have not been renewed its a matter of when not if they fail. So the saw is not worthy of being a work saw. I'm sure no one would want to swing that heavy of a saw around long anyway, not with the more modern lighter options out there that you can get parts for.

So to the OP as far as value, unless some echo collector just has to have the fairly uncommon saw in collation I think the $350 offer was more then fair. If you can get a bunch more for it good on you. Let me know if you do as then I will put mine on the market. Mine may not be as pretty but it has all been gone though with the hard to find parts replaced and should be good to go for a long time.

Yeah I'm not a echo hater or anything but echo when the 900evl was made was def a few rungs above there reputation now.But having said that the cylinder off my 900 has one of the best plating and port work ive seen as far as quality.Ive found there numbers are not as hot as they claim, but they make rotary tools for that.Im biased in this regard but $350 feels warm but not to hot!
