Hello, new member and new to chainsaws (no nothing about them). I'm in the market for a saw now that I'll be burning wood in my new log home. I was really thinking about the Dolmar 460 or 510 but I ran across the Efco 165 (new) that the shop wants $470 out the door. That price is less than other Efco dealers want but I wasn't really looking for a saw that big, if its a good saw and worth the price maybe I shouldn't pass it up....what do you all think ? anything better in that price range ? or should I just stick with the Dolmar brand ?

Thanks.

Buy 2 of them at that price!!!! I hear the newest edition of that saw is down on power from the older ones, but that saw with a 20 inch bar and 3/8ths chain. is a keeper. I sold a 56cc version of that saw and regret it. If it comes with .325 chain, have it switched at the dealer.

Hi, the shop is in Sthil-Husky country and the can't sell the Efco 165. They said its been in the shop for two years so I don't know if that means "newest edition of that saw is down on power from the older ones". They say they sold a bunch of the 152's. Sure looks like a nice built saw but like I said I don't know a thing about them. It has the 20" and 3/8 chain.

Thanks

Don't tell a lot of people on here where that place is cause I suspect it won't be in Stihl country very long. Thats less than most 50cc saws. I haven't seen them at that price since John Deere cleared out the green ones when they took on Stihl at there dealerships.

If it is sitting there two years, they might sell it even cheaper than that. Ya never know, slap four benjamins down on the counter, see what happens.

There are also always good deals on the classifieds here. Go take a look.

A real general basic rule of thumb is, used in good shape ready to cut around half of new price is fair.

There's a dolmar 7900 for four hundred right now in the classifieds, among others.

That would be like getting a hot euro sportscar as your first car, but it's a deal, too.

The 165 specs is down on power and a little up on weight, compared to the 162. Reports from users indicate they are more down on power than the specs suggest. I have no idea what the price should be expected to be in the US though, so I can't comment on the price.

I have an EFCO 181 ,80cc rated at 6hp .Didn't cost me much but I agree it is choked back some. However they are pretty well put together ,other than the air filtration I like it. If you can get a deal and don't run it lean ,go for it. Then again Dolmar makes some sweet saws.

You're right because I went back and bought it for $450 out the door :hmm3grin2orange: The first time I went there a sales person give me the info that I posted, when I went back the shop owner dealt with me. The saw was made in 1-11 and they had it for a little over a year. Someone went in and ordered it with $100 deposit and they never came back. The owner had applied the $100 toward the saw that's why so cheap, he knocked some more off and $450 it was mine. I don't know about saws so I hope I did right. I'll hang out here and learn all I can and maybe some simple mod can bring the power up, but being a rookie I'm sure the saw will have enough power compared to the smaller saws I was interested in.

Thanks to all ;)

Look at that price there's not a better deal out there. I bought a 156 after researching it for 6 months. Never seen or ran one! The saw is fantastic!! Runs right near my 262, and I think it's smoother! Best starting saw I have. When the hurricane hit I grabbed the 156 cuz I knew it would start and get the job done. Great saw!!

Cool Beans man! Go cut some wood, then the rule here is, pics or it didn't happen!

Hmm, when I cut wood you want me to post pic's or else I never cut wood :msp_confused: explain.....

Both! hahahaha You can post pics now of your new saw, then do a follow up of some wood scores and maybe your impressions on using your new saw. Whatever ya want, we all just like pics!

Oh get it now, I bought the saw late in the day so they said it will be setup correct and adjusted by tomorrow. When I pick it up I'll post pic's. Hope I don't burn the thing up during break in

Any tips on oil ? I use Klotz R50 in my dirt bike and weed whackers, will that be ok for the saw or should I use saw oil ?

Great sounds like a sweet deal. my Efco starts very easy also. I give you 2 months then you and CAD will be close buddies and on to 70-80ccs. haha

Don't know about Klotz that you're refering to, but any of the full synthetic non marine oils at 50: 1 will be fine. Some people like 40:1 on a new saw for the break in period.

If it is really close, something isn't right with that 262xp...;)
