My Efco 981 runs stronger and cooler with this front port installed. 316 stainless steel 16x16 screen is sandwiched behind bracket.

And it makes that Gilardoni top end sound great.

I saw a newer 981 recently and it looks like they have dropped the pipe that I have on mine from the current muffler design, unfortunately.

This saw is a bit of a toy really, since I don't have a walk-in parts supply source or local service support. It's just something to break up the Husky/Stihl routine once in a while.

I have an olympik 980 that a customer leaned out and fried it. We rebuilt it and the customer never came back for the saw because he wanted efco to just give him a new saw. So I have had this thing for a couple of years and decided to start it and use it the other day. We actullly drilled a hole in the muffler to give it relefe and boy did it wake that saw up! Very good power band a little on the load side but hey it chews the wood!

That Gilardoni sound is one thing I noticed when I ran a 981, sounded good for a stock saw.

Yes we are going to sell the 980 saw. We got stuck on the deal for the rebuild since the customer got mad at efco he never signed the warrany claim. So I have got basically parts and labor in the saw. I will have to do some figuring on it but it sure would be a good one for someone!

my 962 has that mufler style.. i drilled the front also.. however this is the only saw i got that actually slowed dn with the front off the muffler,,but it responded very strongly to an tach tuning in cut..its different configuratin than most but my efco is one saw i like as much as any other .. mabe a little better than most as its the[ 028 feel alike] with 16 inch bar an chisel .. nothin slows it dn. past 9500.. 10.000..

Hey Rich, I was just taking some poetic license and expounding on what Sylvatica said. They do have a Gilardoni top end and happen to sound pretty good to boot.
