Picked up a billhook at the fleamarket recently, something tells me it is Swedish, but I can't find any reference to the maker online. This thing is the best $15. I ever spent, it will go through a 1.5-2 inch fir limb in a single stroke, one-handed! I guess it's amazing penetration is due to the extra weight in the 'hook' part of the blade and the fact that the blade is so thin: about 5/32 inch (a little less than 10 Guage). It's very light, only 1.4 Kg/34oz. Hickory handle 21.5" long, blade about 9.5 inches long, hook is about 2" long, the blade extends about 10" back in the handle with two heavy rivets and a steel band to keep it in place.
About the same size as the Sandvik slashers overall, but MUCH more effective. Blade is not replaceable however, but it can be sharpened of course.
If you can find one grab it, these are amazing!

Just found out the company that made this, Edsbyns Industri AB, of Sweden, was bought out in 1973!

Nothing similar seems to be made today. Too bad, I need a handle for mine and I guess I'll have to make it myself. :(
