She is definitely the ugliest girl at the dance. The original Kohler 20hp has definitely run a marathon and is tired. Im looking for options/ideas/recomendations for the replacement motor. What have you guys replaced it with? Preference to Briggs, Kohler, Honda, Kawasaki F.I.? 30 hp would be nice , unfortunately I think my wallet might punch me if I went for that one. Also, best source for your recomendation. I've been looking a brandnewengines.com and smallengine warehouse.com

Last winter I installed the 35hp Briggs Vanguard on my Vermeer SC252. Search for previous threads about it. About $200 more than a Kohler 25. Difference is amazing. Not sure of your Rayco, but on the 252 all that had to be changed was engine mount plate. The clutch was direct fit.

Then I would just verify that the 27 hp Kohler would fit. It should be a direct bolt up. One the websites like Brand New Engines and Small Engine Warehouse they have spec sheets you can download to compare output shaft size, height, and length. Also gives you mounting hole dimensions. Have fun.

If the 20 Horse Power Kohler is the old 2 cylinder opposed engine and not the V twin, you will still have to modify the mounting holes to mount the V twin 27 HP Kohler. Went through that on my old Vermeer SC 206. Its not that big a deal if you have a drill and a little mechanical ability. Just make sure the clutch and belts line up properly.

That was so long ago I dont remember. Just set the new engine in place so that everything lines up. Mark the holes and drill as needed.
