Have a 97 Gmc C7500 bucket with the 361? Gmc gutless gas motor and it needs to go. I'm looking for a good diesel option with some decent pulling power. Truck has the 5 speed standard, and is rated at 29,000 GVWR. What's your guys thoughts for a good fit/ relatively easy swap?

That engine should be a 366 V8. Though old engines, but as you said, gutless. No matter which engine you put in it, it will still be gutless. your problem is not just the engine, it is also the transmission.
The 3116 is east to find used. However, they are a rather fragile engine. If you buy used, you have no idea if it has been properly cared for. They are generally not rebuildable if they fail, they are a throwaway. It, or the C7, will also be gutless, unless you put in an 8LL or a 10speed transmission.

image.jpg I hear that. I really would like to keep the truck so a trans and motor are not out of the question. Any thoughts on a cummins ISC? Also wondering if someone makes a conversion kit for any of these options, although doubtfull. Wiring harness, motor mounts, fuel system etc.
