Hey guys,

Ok so I have been doing the tree stuff coming up on 2 years now. I have been to a few climbing schools, and have been working with a local tree company and he feels I have enough to go out on my own( scary huh lol),

Anyhow, we invested in a 14.5 ton boom truck last month, and have been using it as much as I can. We are now in the market for a good chipper, and a boom truck. I dont mind dropping coin on a good piece of equipment, just want to get something that will not need repairs on a regular basis. If it does not have a chip body that wont be a deal breaker, as we have a flat bed we build a box on that we have been using a our chip truck. We have been renting a chipper from Sunbelt ad to be honest I think we can add to our bottom line by investing.

Long story short, what are some things to look for in a used truck as well as a new. Same goes for the chipper, any one brand better then the other? I have heard the High Ranger brand is one of the best out there, but the guy who trained me had a older Altech( i think) and it was real jerky and did not have the pistol grip control on it.

SO what do ya guys think, and where should I go to look?

I prefer the Hi Ranger, simply for the control from the pistol grip. Altech is very jerky, especially when booming over backwards!
Hi Ranger, 55 ' boom, on a flatbed International is my fav........ Use a separate chipper body, as you are able to go dump, while still continuing to work the trees. If you look into your local Electric co-ops, they generally auction off their used equipment, and can get a nice bucket truck for a good price.
These are just opinions......

i have many bucket trucks in stock, all certified and inspected, work ready trucks . 60 foot working hight and 75 foot with a elevator. gas and diesel trucks. let me know what your looking for

I'd start looking here. Look all around. Learn as much as possible. Get an idea of the different models/ prices. Investigate where you can get service at. You might buy a vermeer for instance and then find the only dealer is 500 miles away. Try out some different types if possible. Think about what you really need. Its complex and different for everyone.

I have been in different buckets. Mostly Altec. And I can tell you out of the ones I was in it depended on the truck. Some were very jerky like stated earlier but some were very smooth and comfortable. Not sure how the selling of bucket trucks go but if you can fly em before buying I would definitly take advantage of that. That way if it really does vary from truck to truck like ive seen you can make sure you get a smooth bucket for the start.

I have a 99 LR3 with 58k and a some new parts , whats it worth as a trade if I could get 15k for it I might be inclined to go another LR3 with the 3126 cat and AC , no autos and a forestry package ...OH I forgot its a 366 ..

My Altec 600 H has been a good boom. Kinda jerky if youre not used to it. I couldn't make it without the materials handler. I simply would not own a bucket without it. Having that winch on the end is priceless. I can pick out limbs and tops over houses and wires. On a big tree I can thread an eye bolt in the top of the wood then saw off a 7 or 8 hundred pound piece and pick it up and set it right in the trailer. Three thousand pound rating but I dont push it.
