So, I've got the 066 on the bench and half torn apart. Oil pump is pulled and taken apart. Going to have to get a new drive spring and pump housing, but life could be worse.

Picked up a compression tester at HF for $6, figured it would be handy to have around. After the chains were sharpened and the oil pump was in pieces, I saw the box and gave it a try. 151 lbs, the old girl is still tight. No wonder she would bite back with authority before the Elastostart. No rebuild in the near future for me, but now I may have to spiff it up a bit. She looks a bit "rode hard, and put away wet".

I'm feeling better now.

Give yourself a pat on the back for taking good care of it, and.. if it was me I would leave that baby looking beat up,much less chance of them getting stolen when they look terrible!

It always make you feel a little bit better when you accually get to save some money.

By that, I assume you mean "spend less". For a saw with a lot of hours on it, and as physically unattractive as it is, it was well taken care of mechanically. Was a logger's saw in BC before going into "semi-retirement" in my stable.

The compression thing was always a point of interest. I knew it wasn't bad, since there is some good resistance on the rope when starting. I wasn't expecting it to be that high though. It was rebuilt before I got it, and apparently it wasn't long before I did. Got it cheap enough, 4 years or so ago. Replaced the brake handle, bands, starter rope, and rebuilt the carb. Got a real nice used clutch from BCorradi, and I got really good saw out of it. This thing has a lot of hours on it, but still runs like a scalded dog.

I guess I'll have to go through with the plastic upgrade and decomp valve for it.
