Any information on the pre exam class? I'm planning on taking my cert test this winter. I know it would help if i took a refresher course before hand though.
did the isa test in march and there was alot of questions relating to tree and construtction around those trees. ie soil and root compaction
test i did was heavily wieghted with those types of questions
Know the book cover to cover, know your tree ID. Go early to the area that the test is being held and look around at the trees, the get some samples form the area (at least where I tested).
I didn't find out about the prep test until a couple months after it was offered. I'm sure that would have been a huge help. Apparently KY only offers it once a year, in the early spring.
I echo JJackson on this one... go a little early and make sure you can ID every tree around the building. Not always, but often samples are grabbed at the last minute. Don't overthink the questions. Relax.
don't waste your money on the pre test course. Everyone in our group who attended, failed the test. If you don't already know the material, someone reading the study guide to you the day before the test won't make any difference anyway.
Study, and look around the bldg. relax, the test is pretty easy anyway.

I did not find the pre test class any to be any help at all. More than 1/2 the class had never climbed a tree so the 2 hours were spent going over climbing and safety. Most in my class were college grads going for state jobs as consultants/inspectors so they were all book smart, but had never done the work. This is major problem with ISA, but I will let that go for another thread.
As for test, study the guide and the sample questions, the tree ID list of possible choices should be listed in your local chapter website. Test is multiple choice 1 out of 4 will be correct answer. If you do not know answer eliminate obvious wrong answers and take your best guess at remainder. Be carefull to mark only 1 circle for each question and make sure you check the question number and answer number match. Heard about someone skipping a space and screwed up his whole test. Take your time, do not rush, no extra credit for finishing first. Good luck.
Congrats on passing, well done. Now remember to keep up with your CEU's so you do not have take the test again, and you keep the education process moving.
