Hope I am not giving up any ones well kept secret, but I found on ebay some pipes made for those dangerous as heck "pocket rocket" 49cc mini bikes. They look as if they could be made to fit on a saw. For the inexperienced chainsaw enthusiast like myself, this is an inexpensive way to have a little fun experimenting with pipes on a saw. Cheers

I`ve known guys, some who are otherwise reputable builders, who have tried bike and kart pipes on saws with varying results.

One thing that you will never get by going this route is optimization to your engine but you may get some performance enhancement. On the other hand, I`ve seen a few saws run faster on muffler than they do on a poorly matched pipe.

What the heck, ten bucks isn`t a big risk. Nothing ventured nothing gained right? Pun intended.

The shape, diameter and length of a expansion chamber definitely effects how a 2 stroke makes power and where in the RPM range. I had a sand drag quad that ran a RZ 350 2 stroke twin out of a street bike, I had a pipe builder out of Michigan build me a set of out-swept chambers that where tunable. The pipes where split in two spots and I could add bands and sections to increase length and dia. and totally change where the power was in the RPM range!

On an engine dyno this motor when stroked to 409cc made 97 hp on alcohol with 2 Lectron 40's. Don't know how these numbers compare to what a strong saw puts out but it was a blast in the dunes!

Sorry for the hi-jack but I find the 2 stroke exhaust topic to be very interesting.:dizzy:

9.99 is really cheap for a pipe, but 18.95 for shipping. Some of these sellers make their money on shipping. Still, for 30 bucks, it could be fun to put on my 5100. Cut off the silencer, and add a stinger. I bet it would sound great.

I put a mac 10-10 to the test with one of the pipes you are talking about and it's on this site somewhere. videos too. It flat out works. The best ? Probably not.
